The University of St Mark & St John is a small, values-based and friendly university where everyone works together to help all students achieve their full potential. Our staff know all their students by name, our class sizes are small with contact hours high and students are supported to be the very best they can be.
The University was founded in 1838 and originated in London as the UK’s first teacher training college. In 1973 the College of St Mark & St John moved to Plymouth and achieved University status in 2013.
With over 175 years of heritage, tradition and experience we deliver education, research and innovation across three faculties of Education and Social Sciences, Sport and Health Sciences, and Culture and Language Sciences. We are ranked as the top UK university for Social Mobility and this year became only the fourth university to have been awarded the Social Enterprise Mark.
We work with a range of partners from the sectors of education, sport, health and the creative industries to pioneer and provide an innovative model of university education that adds value to your degree by integrating a wide range of activities and opportunities to enhance your experience, qualifications and employability.
This approach, underpinned by our values and by digital scholarship, global citizenship and employer partnership, enables you to benefit from internships, professional qualifications, international exchanges, research opportunities and more.
We offer over 100 different programmes of study designed to meet your expectations and the needs of employers who value our students very highly.
We are situated on a single campus, on the outskirts of Plymouth. The City Centre is a short bus ride away, and we are also close to the moors, the sea and an array of beaches.
